Dauphin Island features 3 major fishing locations:
- the ‘free’ pier and jetties on the East End (east and south of Fort Gaines),
- the ‘spit’ which was formerly Pelican Island out from where the pine trees stop near the old Dauphin Island Pier,
- the ‘West End Beach’ at the western end of Bienville Blvd.
- A fourth spot is to wade fish the ‘lagoon’ in front of the Dauphin Island Golf Course.
April is usually a good month as from shore fishing is usually peaking then with speckled trout, redfish, flounder, sheepshead, etc.
Wadefishing with lures is often productive, but live bait (shrimp or minnows) is ‘tops’ most of the time.
